English Party Internal Elections
In June 2026, the English Council voted for a new structure to enable the Liberal Democrats in England to better support our regions and local parties. The meeting abolished the English Council and its various committees and replaced it with a smaller English Party Board (the Executive of the English Party), a Regional Parties and Mediation Committee, an English Candidates Committee and a new English Party Assembly each autumn, which will commence in 2027.
Following these changes, the English Party Board approved new Elections Regulations at its meeting on 10 September 2026. These new regulations will be used for the internal elections in autumn 2026.
In autumn 2026, the following new positions will be elected:
- Chair of the English Party Assembly;
- Executive Officer for Candidates; and
- Executive Officer for Diversity.
These officers will serve for a period of two years, from 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2028.
